About Us
Aizawa-Yamakata-Matsui Laboratory is a research group at the University of Tokyo. We belong to:
- For undergraduate students: the Department of Information and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (Aizawa-Matsui Lab.)
- For graduate students: the Department of Information Communication Engineering, School of Information Science and Technology (Aizawa Lab., Yamakata Lab., and Matsui Lab.)
- For graduate students: the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies (Aizawa Lab.)
All the students belong to either of the departments, and there is no difference in which department they belong. We also have a strong collaboration with Yamasaki Lab. Our main office is at the Hongo campus.
In our laboratory, we are studying media technology based on images and video. We are working on research to build a human-centered information processing infrastructure from various perspectives. Our research topics range from the theoretical aspect of computer vision, such as fundamental image recognition and 3D processing, to application-oriented topics such as street view, food computing, comic computing, and large-scale media processing.
Our current research interests are
- Image recognition and learning infrastructure
- 360° image processing, 3D processing, Street View
- Food computing and lifelog
- Comics computing
- Text, Font and Design
- Learning-based image compression
- Large-scale media processing
We are constantly exploring new fields of image and video processing. For an overview of our research, please refer to the "Research" section.
